“Better Days”, new song! ~ On June 9, 2010, due to an “oversight”, a new song was streaming on the website of Monkeywrench Records, Pearl Jam’s label. The audio file was almost immediately removed and the site is now closed to the public, but some fans managed to rip the song in question, titled “Better Days” and performed by Ed Vedder (listen here). Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, it was later discovered that the song will be included in the movie “Eat, Pray, Love” (based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestseller of the same name), directed by Ryan Murphy and starring Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem and Billy Crudup. The film will hit American theatres on August 13. It is still unknown whether the track will be included in the movie soundtrack or not. Note: one of the songs recorded in 2001/2002 for Pearl Jam studio album “Riot Act” was a track named “Better Days”…

Soundgarden reunion! ~ We couldn’t think of a better way to start the New Year: at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s eve (East Coast time), Chris Cornell announced via Twitter that Soundgarden (historic and never forgotten Seattle band) will reform in 2010, with the following statement: “The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!“. A new website (www.soundgardenworld.com) has also been launched for the occasion. Currently there are no other news related to this reunion between ‘old comrades’ but rumors are already swirling about an American West Coast tour planned for next spring and a possible headlining act at Coachella Festival. Currently it is still unclear how the ‘drummer issue’ will be handled: as everyone knows, Matt Cameron has been with Pearl Jam since 1998 but he has also been the historic Soundgarden drummer from 1984 to 1997, year of their split.

Vedder sued over “Hard Sun” ~ Ed Vedder is fighting legal action from Gordon Peterson (Indio) for changing the lyrics to “Hard Suin”, which he recorded for the “Into the Wild” soundtrack. Canadian singer/songwriter Peterson, who originally wrote the track in 1987, wasn’t happy when he heard the finished version, so he is now suing Vedder and has filed papers in New York’s Manhattan federal court. The suit states, “Vedder altered certain key lyrics of ‘Hard Sun’… eroding the integrity of the composition.” Executives at Universal Music are also targeted in the lawsuit after allegedly licensing the track without his permission. Peterson is demanding all profits from the “acts of infringement”. However, Vedder’s lawyer Gregory Clarick insists Peterson has no grounds for complaint. He tells the New York Post, “We don’t see any basis for a copyright infringement claim.”
New Vedder videos ~ Here’s the video of Ed Vedder at the 32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington DC on December 6, 2009, singing a memorable version of “My City Of Ruins” in front the author of the song, a visibly moved Bruce Springsteen (seated next to Barack Obama and wife).
