12.00 CET “What are they doing? + PJ’s 20th anniversary!”

Pearl Jam: what are they doing? While waiting for the two Pearl Jam sets at the Bridge School Benefit on October 23/24, all band members have been pretty busy in recent weeks. On September 18, Ed Vedder married his longtime girlfriend Jill McCormick (Billboard). The ceremony took place on the beach in Kailua (Hawaii) and was attended by approximately 70 guests, including Tim Robbins (best man), Sean Penn, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Neil and Liam Finn. Stone Gossard has been touring with Brad between September and October (for details, check out our ‘On the Road’ section) and Jeff Ament has built a skatepark in his hometown of Big Sandy, Montana (an interview with Jeff is available here). McCready played some concerts with friends and colleagues in the Seattle area, while Matt Cameron gave several interviews with his old mates, Soundgarden, promoting the band’s anthology album, “Telephantasm”, released in late September.

Pearl Jam is 20! October 22, 2010 marks the twentieth anniversary of the first concert held by Mookie Blaylock/Pearl Jam at the Off Ramp Cafè in Seattle.  14.00 “Vedder for the WM3 + Bridge 2010? + Side Projects + Brian Fallon on PJ OnLine + More”

Ed Vedder live for the WM3 On August 28, 2010 Ed Vedder along with Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks) and other special guests will perform at the Robinson Center Music Hall in Little Rock (Arkansas) for a show in support of The West Memphis Three (click here for more info).

Pearl Jam to play Bridge 2010? A few days ago Mike McCready joined the band Star Anna & the Laughing Dogs in Los Angeles to play a few songs. After the concert a fan approached Mike, who revealed that Pearl Jam will perform at the Bridge School Benefit 2010 and that the Pearl Jam docufilm that director Cameron Crowe is shooting should be released around August/September 2011.

*UPDATE* (08.29.10) Stone Gossard, interviewed by Billboard on August 23, confirmed that Pearl Jam will appear at the annual Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California, on October 23 and 24. According to the guitarist, it will be the best way to celebrate the band’s 20th birthday “So that’s our 20th anniversary, which is fitting. It’s perfect: not too blown up. It’s not about us, it about all those kids that are on stage with you and about Neil Young and his commitment, his influence.” The Bridge School dates begin the day after Pearl Jam’s exact anniversary. Oct. 22 marks the date in 1990 that the band, then called Mookie Blaylock, played its first show in Seattle’s tiny Off Ramp club. It will be Pearl Jam’s eighth Bridge appearance. The group first played the benefit, which supports Young’s school for children with severe physical disabilities, back in 1992.

Gossard also told Billboard that Pearl Jam will probably tour South America in 2011 and this is what he said about Pearl Jam’s plans to record: “The band has been talking. We were actually talking about trying to get in before Bridge School but I think this Band Of Horses [tour] with Brad is going to make that harder to do. But the band is definitely going to get together probably without Ed and start to hammer out some more demos and get some stuff to the point where he can hear. So no plans, but no rush.” Stone also revealed that reformed Soundgarden (with Matt Cameron on drums) will probably play more shows in 2011: “I’m looking forward to seeing some more Soundgarden shows. I hope that that’s part of the mix of next year. Matt getting out there and playing some dates with Soundgarden would make the world so happy.”

Side Projects Given the momentary break from Pearl Jam, band members have all “resurrected” their side projects: Stone Gossard’s Brad will play a few dates in the U.S. in October and November opening for Band Of Horses; Mike will appear on September 2 at the Moore Theatre in Seattle (along with Duff McKagan, Shawn Smith and others) for the benefit “Hootenanny For A Healthy Gulf”, while Jeff Ament just played a show in Montana with Deranged Diction, the hardcore band he was part of in the early Eighties (reunited in 2008). Matt Cameron is continuing to play with Soundgarden. After playing Vic Theatre and Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago last August, the band will release a ‘best of’ on September 28, 2010, entitled “Telephantasm”, containing a previously unreleased song called” Black Rain “(a “Badmotorfinger” out-take). The full tracklist can be found here.

Musicians giving props to Pearl Jam and a special greeting to this website While Julian Casablancasa, during a recent interview with NME, expressed his desire to produce a Pearl Jam song (“It would be a dream,” the Strokes frontman said) and while Kings Of Leon, interviewed by TheOlympian, once again talked about how much they’ve been influenced by Pearl Jam, a few days ago the staff of PJ Online met the Gaslight Anthemfrontman, Brian Fallon, during the Italian stop of the tour in support of their latest album “American Slang”. With the help of Walter of Rude Records, Brian was kind enough to spend some time with us for a chat about his band, Pearl Jam (his favorite band!) and he also had something to say to our viewers. Thank you, Brian!

Ed Ved about Robert Pollard new record Not only many well known musicians are big Pearl Jam fans, but also Pearl Jam are fans of great musicians. Here is a statement released by Ed Vedder about the new Robert Pollard album (Guided By Voices), “Moses On A Snail”:

“It sounds to me like Robert Pollard uncharacteristically took ten years to make this one… He will tell you otherwise, but I don’t believe him. It’s too fucking good. If it were any other group this would be seen as their masterpiece. I think for Bob it’s just another good day of weaving words into a kaleidoscope of one of a kind, thought-provoking perspectives. Robert Pollard rules. All hail the King.”

Pearl Jam to take a break after Euro tour On July 10, Ed Vedder told the crowd at Lisbon’s Optimus Alive festival (video): “Thank you for coming to our last show. Not our last ever, but our last in a long time.” Vedder’s words immediately spread across the web, raising fans’ fears of a prolonged stop and forcing Pearl Jam publicist, Nicole Vandenberg, to issue a note to put the brakes on rumors. “(It’s) nothing serious. He says that at the end of all tours, meaning that the tour is over. I think the remarks got a bit lost in translation.” Pearl Jam doesn’t have any shows lined up at the moment, and Vandenberg did not elaborate on any of the band’s future plans, or whether they had finished their support of last September’s record, Backspacer.
