Pearl Jam to perform at the 28th Annual Bridge School Benefit

At the end of their US fall tour that kicks off tomorrow – as usual, you can follow it in our constantly updated On The Road section – Pearl Jam will be among the guests at the 28th Annual Bridge School Benefit, to be held on October 25 and 26 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California (click the left image to check out the complete bill). This is Pearl Jam’s 9th participation in the acoustic benefit patronized by ‘Uncle’ Neil Young, but it will also be the first time – since the summer of 1993 – that Pearl Jam and Soundgarden will be performing on the same bill… Temple of The Dog reunion in sight?
“Imagine” new benefit single by Eddie Vedder

More benefit events involving Eddie Vedder. First one is a gift from Ten Club to its members: the cover of Imagine by John Lennon, performed at Eddie’s solo concert on July 18 in Meco, Portugal. Imagine has been chosen as the A side of the annual Ten Club single to be delivered to all 2014 Ten Club members (both Digital and Analog). To download it, you just have to login to pearljam.comand go to My Account > My Membership > Downloads. The vinyl format for Analog members will be mailed when the single is complete. Imagine is also available for anyone who is not a Ten Club member beginning today on iTunes. Proceeds will go to Heartbeat.fm, an organization that creates opportunities and spaces for young Israeli and Palenstinian musicians to work together.
Vedder to honor Bob Dylan in benefit concert

Vedder – together with Jack White, Neil Young, Beck, The Black Keys, Crosby Stills & Nash, Tom Jones, and Norah Jones – will be performing on Februardy 6, 2015 in Los Angeles at a tribute concert to Bob Dylan, who has been chosen as the MusiCares Person of the Year 2015, one of the six Grammy Award special prizes, which is presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to commend musicians for their artistic achievement in the music industry and dedication to philanthropy. The proceeds of the concert will be donated to MusiCares, established by the academy to provide health and medical assistance to needy musicians.

 Vault #4 – Bellingham 2000

As every year, Pearl Jam are releasing a new volume of their Vault series – archive bootlegs selected from hundreds of concerts that have not yet been officially released. This time, the choice fell on the warm-up show of the Binaural Tour at the Mt. Baker Theatre in Bellingham on May 10, 2000 (here’s the setlist). The release is currently available for pre-order as a 180 gram 3-LP set for Ten Club members only in the Pearl Jam Shop (until 9/10/2014). After orders will begin shipping (December 2014 – January 2015), the show will be also available for purchase in Digital and CD formats.
ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! Pearl Jam supporting ALS research

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is undoubtedly the global phenomenon of this summer 2014. Launched by Pete Frates and Steve Gleason (pictured left, with Mike McCready) – former pro athletes currently battling ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (a neurodegenerative disease affecting the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement) – the challenge involves someone getting doused with a bucket of ice water on video (de facto simulating, through a quick shock to the nervous system, the feeling of those who are affected by the disease), posting that video to social media, then nominating others to do the same. Those who refuse to take the challenge are asked to make a donation to the ALS charity of their choice, such as www.alsa.org. Of course, since the aim is to raise awareness about this terrible and deadly disease, those who accept the challenge are asked to make a donation as well. Pearl Jam members, crew & lots of fans have all taken the challenge. You can check out the funny videos in our YouTube playlist.

 RIP Rick Parashar

On 14 August, well-known producer and founder of the London Bridge Studio Rick Parashar passed away at his home in Seattle. He was aged 50 and died of natural causes. Back in the days, Parashar produced – among many others – Pearl Jam’s Ten and Temple of the Dog‘s self-titled record. He also played piano and organ on Black, Jeremy, Call Me A Dog, All Night Thing and Times of Trouble. Condolences to his family.

 New book releases

** PLEASE DESCRIBE THIS IMAGE **
Two Pearl Jam themed releases have recently hit bookstore shelves in Italy . The first is Pearl Jam – Still Alive, which traces the history of the band from its origins in the early nineties to the recent comeback with “Lightning Bolt” through lyrics commented by Simone Dotto.
The second is called Come Back Pearl Jam in Italia 2014 and is a photo book documenting the two recent Lightning Bolt Tour dates in Italy – Milan, San Siro Stadium on June 20, and Trieste, Stadio Nereo Rocco, on June 22 – told by Antonio Siringo and the words of many fans. The foreword is by our own founder Luca.
Another great release not to be missed by PJ fans is Danny Clinch – Still Moving, the first monograph of rock photographer and director Danny Clinch, known for his work with Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters and many more.  Mike McCready in “Free Ride” + CCFA Benefit 2014

Mike McCready and Brandi Carlile wrote and performed the song Free Ride, for the film of the same title, directed by Shana Betz and starring Anna Paquin. The track has been distributed as a limited edition 7-inch vinyl through the label owned by the guitarist – Hockeytalkter Records – and is available in the Shop at PearlJam.com (the B-side is an instrumental version of the track). The song also features Stone Gossard on guitar and Barrett Martin on drums.
Mike McCready will play with Flight to Mars, his UFO tribute band, at The Showbox in Seattle on May 16, 2014 for their 12th annual benefit concert. Proceeds from the show will benefit Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America’s Camp Oasis and The Jennifer Jaff Center (info).

Matt Chamberlain is Soundgarden’s new touring drummer

Soundgarden will release a deluxe version of Superunknown on June 3 and have recently announced who is going to replace Matt Cameron for the band’s next live commitments (South American dates, European dates and a summer U.S. tour with Nine Inch Nails): Matt Chamberlain, who Pearl Jam fans may remember for playing drums in the official video for Alive and for being Pearl Jam’s touring drummer in the summer of 1991, after Dave Krusen left the band and before being replaced by Dave Abbruzzese. Good luck Matt!

 Ten Club Annual Single 2013

Ten Club Analog members in Europe are currently receiving the 2013 Annual Vinyl Single & the new Deep Magazine issue. Both releases are also available for all members (Digital and Analog) in digital format at PearlJam.com under My Account > My Membership > Downloads. A-side features 99 problemsperformed by Pearl Jam along with the author (rapper Jay-Z) at the Made In America Festival on September 2, 2012. The B-side is a funny cover of Shattered by the Rolling Stones played by Ed Vedder with actress Jeanne Tripplehorn on September 15, 2013 at a private benefit show in support of HealEB, a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding a cure while raising awareness for Epidermolysis Bullosa. Ed and Jill Vedder are personally invoved as founders and funders of Heal EB.

“Out Of The Furnace” movie score

The score of the movie Out of the Furnace, released in the U.S. in December 2013, features a beautiful new version of Pearl Jam’s classic Release, whose vocal track was re-recorded last year for the movie.

Note: In agreement with Vedder, the film’s director, Scott Cooper, has decided to set aside “two or three very personal songs for me that aren’t in the film and only he and I will share” (source). Only time will tell if these unreleased tracks will see the light in any official publication (perhaps a future solo album by Ed?)…
