On February 28, 2025, Pearl Jam announced their participation in the 24-hour economic blackout, an initiative organized by The People’s Union USA to protest the influence of large corporations and political parties over American workers. The movement, founded by John Schwarz, urges people to avoid any purchases for a day, particularly from major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy, and to instead support small local businesses for essential purchases. The goal is to highlight the economic power of consumers and push for greater corporate and governmental accountability.

The band shared the message through their official channels, encouraging fans to take part. Their support for the initiative aligns with Pearl Jam’s long history of social and economic activism. The band has consistently advocated for workers’ rights and fought against economic injustices.

As a further sign of commitment to the initiative, the Ten Club, the band’s official fan club, announced that its online store would be closed for 24 hours, urging fans to respect the economic blackout.

The initiative not only encourages people to halt purchases but also, where possible and safe, to take a day off from work. While the long-term economic impact of the blackout remains uncertain, the movement has garnered support from numerous celebrities and organizations, sparking widespread discussion on social media.
