The documentary on epidermolysis bullosa made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival. After the screening, Eddie Vedder performed a special solo acoustic set.
MATTER OF TIME: THE DOCUMENTARY
Matter of Time is a 1-hour, 45-minute documentary directed by Matt Finlin and produced by Door Knocker Media in collaboration with the Vitalogy Foundation. The film highlights the collective effort to find a cure for epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare and painful genetic disease that can be life-threatening.
The doc captures the two benefit shows Eddie Vedder played at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall in 2023, with all proceeds going to the EB Research Partnership.
Alongside the music, Matter of Time weaves in the stories of patients, families, researchers, and doctors—shining a light on the power of scientific innovation, determination, and a united community. The film gets its title from the song Matter of Time, released by Vedder in November 2020 during the benefit livestream Venture Into Cures.
The score was curated by Canadian indie collective Broken Social Scene.
THE TRIBECA PREMIERE
On June 12, 2025, Matter of Time made its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Eddie Vedder walked the red carpet alongside Eli, the young man with EB who inspired his song Say Hi. The two warmly thanked the festival organizers and spoke about the incredible progress that’s been made in recent years toward fighting the disease. Vedder also reflected on the Benaroya Hall concerts and praised the work of the EB Research Partnership.
Before the screening, there was a 10-minute Q&A moderated by director Matt Finlin, featuring Jill Vedder, a young girl living with EB, and several others involved in the project.
EDDIE VEDDER’S LIVE SET
The evening closed out with a stripped-down acoustic performance by Eddie Vedder. Before playing, he thanked the Tribeca Festival and gave a shoutout to its founder, Robert De Niro, joking: “I call him Bobby… years ago he bought my mom dinner.”
The set featured touching covers of Warren Zevon and Tom Waits, followed by a heartfelt version of Song of Good Hope by Glen Hansard—performed with help from Vedder’s guitar tech, who played the instrumental parts so Ed could focus entirely on vocals.

The acoustic set featured a bunch of songs later played at the Tribeca gig. Fun fact: Pearl Jam kicked off their Binaural Tour warm-up at this very venue exactly 25 years earlier, in 2000.
