Matter of Time: The EB Documentary Featuring Ed Vedder Premieres at Tribeca

Music, science, and hope come together in a project with its heart in the right place.

Some stories can’t be ignored. Not because they’re easy to hear, but because they have the power to change things.
Matter of Time is one of them.

The documentary will have its world premiere on June 12, 2025, at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, with a clear mission: to shine a light on the fight against epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare and devastating disease that affects children’s skin from birth.

Following the screening, Eddie Vedder will deliver an intimate acoustic performance, offering the audience a selection of songs in a stripped-down voice-and-guitar format. It’s a rare opportunity to witness one of the artist’s most personal and powerful moments on stage.

EB is a genetic condition that makes the skin so fragile it blisters or tears with the slightest touch. Those who live with it face daily pain, chronic wounds, infections, and endless bandaging. It’s a rare condition, but one that is deeply debilitating—and, so far, without a cure.

Among the voices and faces featured in Matter of Time is Eddie Vedder, frontman of Pearl Jam, who, alongside his wife Jill, has been at the forefront of the battle against EB. Together, they co-founded the EB Research Partnership (EBRP), now the largest organization in the world dedicated to finding a cure for this disease.

In 2023, Eddie performed two special solo shows in Seattle, at the intimate Benaroya Hall—powerful and emotional events held specifically to raise funds for EBRP. The outcome? Over $5 million raised in just two nights.

The film takes its title from Matter of Time, a moving solo track released by Vedder in November 2020 as part of the Venture Into Cures virtual benefit.

It’s a tender, heartfelt song about time, change, and resilience—an anthem of hope.

Interestingly, Vedder has never performed Matter of Time live, not even during the 2023 Seattle shows. Yet, the song plays a central role in the documentary.

It’s possible that Vedder recorded a new version of the track specifically for the film—a detail still unconfirmed, but one that adds an extra layer of meaning and anticipation.

Beyond the music, Matter of Time weaves together the voices of families living with EB, the insights of doctors, and the tireless work of scientists. It highlights the daily struggles – but also the breakthroughs – like the approval of the first topical gene therapy for EB in 2023, a historic step toward a cure.

Produced by Door Knocker Media in association with the Vitalogy Foundation, Matter of Time is more than a documentary. It’s a story of defiance, innovation, and the belief that even the most impossible challenges are only a matter of time.

With an original score by Broken Social Scene and candid interviews from all sides of the movement, the film becomes a rallying cry for what’s possible when people come together—with urgency and heart—for something bigger than themselves.

It’s the story of a community that refuses to give up. That keeps fighting. That, together, is making a difference.
