saluta il pubblico dopo 'Can't Keep', dicendo che è la
prima data della seconda parte del tour più lungo che
abbiano fatto da quando erano ventenni e che pensavano Missoula
sarebbe stato un buon punto di partenza dove "sarebbe andato
tutto bene" per la prima tappa ed infine che è la
città natale di Jeff. Dopo 'Ghost'Ed parla di uno dei
membri della crew (Sarge, il tecnico delle luci) che è
nelle riserve dell'esercito ed era stato richiamato in servizio
ma che ora era di nuovo con loro in tour. Tutti alzano le mani
al cielo al momento giusto di 'Wishlist', Ed ride e si allontana
dal microfono brevemente. "The keys are shining off your
'GTOs hood" [n.d.t.:invece di "the full moon shining
off a Camaro's hood"] stasera e conclude con la tag "Vorrei
avere ancora 21 anni, vorrei andare ancora a scuola….ci tornerò
quando avrò 41 anni e imparerò ciò che
desidero….e i corsi richiesti che seguirò saranno solo
quei corsi che io richiedo e alzerò la mano di fronte
alla classe e dirò al mio Governo ciò che voglio….sogni,
sogni, sogni…..". 'Not for you' include la strofa "piccola
la mia tavola, posti per tutti voi…". 'Porch' è
dedicata a "un giovane di nome Sam". Di ritorno per
il bis Ed dice che l'ultima volta avevano suonato all'aperto
e ricorda tutti gli "spettatori gratuiti" sulla collina.
"Ora dato che potete avere la musica gratis, dovete pagare
per entrare". 'Elderly Woman..' è dedicata a tutti
quelli di Big Sandy (la vera cittadina natale di Jeff). Ad un
certo punto Jeff è così preso dalla musica che
quasi cade dal palco. Dopo 'Down' Ed parla di quanto il ventilatore
puntato su di lui sia alto e lo fa sentire come in un video
degli Aerosmith, Mike tira fuori il riff di 'Wlak this Way'.
"Proveremo qualcosa che di solito non facciamo…..il fatto
è che non sembrava mai adatto nei posti più grandi
in cui abbiamo suonato" e inizia 'All or None'. 'Last Kiss'
è per quelli in fondo alla venue e la band fa il giro
suonando rivolti ai posti dietro di loro. Ed sputa vino nel
vuoto e sulle luci, spruzzandosi da solo e la folla impazzisce!
Parla di una "cosa locale" e di come Jeff ha stanziato
parte dei profitti dello show benefico di Seattle per un parco
per skateboard e di come l'approvazione di ciò era ostacolata
dalla decisione del consiglio cittadino di bandire lo skateboarding
sui marciapiedi. Suggerisce una campagna di lettere e menzione
gli adesivi di alcuni anni fa che dicevano: "lo skateboarding
non è un crimine" e che gli skateboards "…non
sono mezzi di una rivoluzione di massa….sono solo skateboards"
e introduce 'Know your Rights'. L'esibizione solitaria di Ed
di 'I won't back down' di Tom Petty sembra il suggello di quello
che è appena stato detto. Uno show ad alta energia in
una piccola venue con un fantastico pubblico ricettivo.

indossa un cappellino dei Cubs durante il pre-set e all'inizio
dello show. L'inizio di 'Hail Hail' è totalmente sballato
con ognuno che inizia per conto suo e si interrompe dopo 5 secondi,
si guardano l'un l'altro e Mike scoppia a ridere. Matt da conta"1,2,3.."
e la canzone ricomincia fino alla fine. Ed saluta "i nostri
vicini, Vancouver" dopo 'Corduroy'. 'Thumbing my way' è
eseguita per Adam Kasher che è venuto per vedere lo show.
La batteria di Matt fa da transito da 'Lukin' a 'Grievance'. '1/2
Full' è lentamente prolungata con Ed che usa lo specchio
per catturare il fasio di luce e illuminare le differenti aree
del pubblico quando canta "Chi salverà il mondo?".
'Parting Ways' è intensa ma il basso di Jeff non funziona
bene. Appena la canzone finisce, inizia immediatamente 'RVM',
Jeff scambia velocemente il suo basso per uno nuovo. Ha ancora
dei problemi, ma riesce e mettere tutto a posto in tempo per la
parte "…saw things…" alla fine. Ed torna solo sul palco
all'inizio del primo bis e comincia a cantare un pezzetto di 'Oh
Canada'. "Sto aspettando un ospite speciale….non così
speciale. C'è una storiella che si racconta giù
a Seattle….avete mai notato che il Canada assomiglia al solaio
di vostra nonna? Non ci andate mai e quando lo fate, vi meravigliate
e dite cos'è tutta questa robaccia?….Ma sono stati due
bellissimi giorni qui….siete fortunati che questo è un
secreto". Dice che hanno chiesto a Mr. Bill Gates di venire
allo show ma che era impegnato (fuori a comprare…"il partito
repubblicano") e scherza dicendo che comprerà il Canada.
La maschera finalmente appare e Ed la mette sull'asta del microfono
dicendo "Se guardate da vicino….lo sto impalando in maniera
rituale" e si lancia in 'Soon Forget'. Ed indossa la maschera,
inizia subito 'DTE' e si alza la maschera per cantare ma si abbassa
cosicché il pubblico guarda la maschera. Getta la maschera
alla folla. 'Elderly Woman' è dedicata al ragazzo di Medicine
Hat. Per iniziare il secondo bis Ed canta 'I won't back down'
di Tom Petty e sembra averla imparata meglio. 'Bu$hleaguer' è
una sorpresa, ma la gente canadese la approva. (Ci sono un sacco
di scritte nel pubblico, una che dice "E' tutto OK sei in
Canada" da una parte e "Bu$hleaguer" sull'altra)
Dopo 'RITFW', eseguita a luci accese, Mike prende un'altra chitarra
per fare 'YL' e così finiscono per fare una canzone in
più. |

Kelly Curtis, manager della band, ha affermato che i Pearl Jam sono
dispaciuti di non potere suonare a Cincinnati ma hanno capito perfettamente
la situazione e pensano che l' incolumità di tutti sia la
cosa piu' importante. Gli organizzatori dell' evento hanno informato

EV: Lo United Center è abbastanza facile, i monitors sono
un po' meglio, ma sono felice di essere qui. Vorrei salutare il
mio amico Johnny Ramone che è a casa a guardare la partita.
Un ragazzo che ama il baseball forse più di me. Ma uno
dei miei migliori amici.
GM: Un'altra domanda al volo Eddie, so che hai delle figurine
(del baseball, ndA) con te, noi sappiamo che Bob Costas si porta
